Hanging with my gnomies

So we have been hanging out with our gnomies in the garden.

After prepping our patch - see the last post - we headed off to Bunnings to purchase our plants. There are heaps of worms under the mulch which we are taking as a good sign.

We were going to try companion planting using Marigolds to keep the pests away. We chose two different types of spinach, two different kinds of lettuce, bok choy, carrots, beetroots, thyme and garlic. We also have some perennial basil growing all being guarded by our family gnome.

We do plan to pop in some tomatoes in June, apparently it is too early yet and use the old gate as a frame to support the tomatoes. Our compost is cooking along nicely as well.

And so far the growing vegetables has captured Aurelia's interest. The other night she gobbled up fresh basil leaves which she had picked herself. Fingers crossed this continues. We have also had some cos lettuce eaten but unfortunately not by us. Raya is convinced it is the Flopsy Bunnies (she loves that book).

If I see a little Peter Rabbit it has better watch out - in the mean time we need to get our lettuce some chicken wire.

Do you grow vegetables at your house? Have you gone to great lengths to get your kids to eat veges?
