$111 to look at fish

This weekend we snatched up our niece and one of our nephews (we can't fit any more children in our car) and stole them away for a day of cousin fun {which also gave their sick mum a break}.

We have found in divorce not only is it the parents who miss out on time with the kids but the extended family as well. So we were really looking forward to spending a fun filled day together.

In the lead up hubby and I planned out what we thought would be a fun day for a 3, 5 and 7 year old.

Since the 7 year old knows more about sharks then ANY other person I know we thought perhaps a visit to the aquarium. When I added the cost of tickets it was going to be $111 or so dollars for our visit. Ouch! Our budget has already been hit with physio, it needs it's own physio, so we looked at another option.

We considered Under the Sea being shown at the IMAX - $85.00. Gee having three kids makes things pricey as aparently a 'FAMILY' ticket anywhere only allows for 2 children - must be the 'Dick Smith' family. If this made you go what? then read here

There had to be something 'different' in the city which would cater for these lingering storm clouds.

I found 10 outings for $10 on the TimeOut Sydney website and the ideas were hard to choose between.

Our next one will be unlimited ride on Coney Island for $10!

But this weekend we decided to head to the Powerhouse Museum. For all five of us to go it only cost us $25 and for the price of the Aquarium we could buy a family pass to the Powerhouse for a year.Children under the age of 4 are FREE  even better.

Now I have taken many school excursions to the Powerhouse but since my last visit the museum has really stepped it up a notch.

There is a wonderful kids link Play at the Powerhouse with all the information you need.

The kids all loved Zoe's House the best which is set up like a real construction site. All the kids wear safety vests and can build the house, use a crane and conveyor belt - it is fantastic.

For the kids interested in space - all three of our were they can check out the Space part of the Transport exhibit and have a go in the Zero Gravity Space Lab and experience the illusion of weightlessness - this was a HUGE hit.

The Tinytoreum allowed the kids to sit, draw, colour and have some quieter time as well as look at lots of miniature items - the dolls house was a huge hit as was the toothpick  model of The Sydney Harbour Bridge.

The kids also  loved the Healthy Garden with it's holographic fish pond and ability to become part of the computer game. The outdoor play area designed for 4-15 year olds (hubby you are not 15 anymore) got a serious work out and all declared the Powerhouse has the best see-saw EVER.

It was  a super day out for a super cheap price. Perfect for a little adventure in the school holidays for other Sydneysiders.
