Combine cabin fever with the horrible Sydney weather, a husband in the early stages of man flu and Grand Prix and Aurelia and I hightailed it to the kitchen for some respite.
Now those who know me will know I rarely ever use my name and the word 'kitchen' in the same sentence but being frustrated by my general uselessness while injured I have been endeavouring to find my cooking mojo.
When I was little my nana, amongst millions of other recipes, cooked the BEST EVER cornflake cookies with cherries. I was determined to find this recipe and cook them with Aurelia, passing down the tradition.
I saw lots of recipes but they weren't quite right until I saw a post on a blog about a 70s cornflake recipe.
BINGO I knew I had hit the cornflake cookie jackpot.
I already had all the ingredients in the pantry and we were whipping up a batch in no time. Raya is such a little chef reminding me to "melt the butter", "beat it it we don't want lumps mummy" and she even knows when something is creamed by the colour changing.
Cookies that only take 10 minutes in the oven are even more appealing so we were able to gobble these up in no time.
They were a HUGE success and tasted EXACTLY like my nana used to make - she would be so proud.
Smell and taste help form memories and these cookies took me right back as well as making new memories for Raya.
I may have to hang out in the kitchen a little more
